Once you’ve made the decision to have an aquarium the excitement begins with deciding which fish to have in it. This will partly depend on the size of the tank as well as whether it is a cold water one or heated. There are also some other factors to bear in mind though – here are some top aquarium fish as well as why we think they are a good choice.
1. Platies
Platies are great to have in a tank as they come in a wide variety of colours which means you can have fun deciding which mixture of shades to go for. They can be fed with freeze-dried food or flakes and will also eat algae, helping to keep the tank looking good too.
2. Black Molly
The black molly is a good choice of fish if you are looking to have a combination of varieties in your aquarium. This is because it is a peaceful fish that won’t fight with others in the tank.
3. Swordtails
Swordtails are a popular selection for a mixed aquarium as they are also a peaceful variety of fish that shouldn’t cause too much trouble in the tank. They are great for adding colour and like platies come in many different variations.
4. Dainios
Finally, danios are also a good choice as they are very active creatures and have interesting horizontal stripes which can catch people’s attention. They also eat flakes making them easy to feed.
