It is a well-known fact that aquariums can have a positive effect on people’s mood both at home and in the workplace. Whilst many people equate fish tanks with round bowls or simple, rectangular tanks, there are many weird and wonderful designs out there. These are five of our favourite unusual aquariums:
1. Hanging fish tanks
Hanging fish tanks, which resemble hanging baskets in terms of their design, are tanks attached to wall hooks or elegant stands. This type of tank is great if you want to create a calming focal point, but do not have a lot of space to do so. They can also be illuminated at night.
2. An aquarium sink
An aquarium sink is definitely something different in the bathroom. Fish swim around in the bottom of the transparent sink, with the top cover being removable in order to be able to feed them.
3. Potted fish
Another unusual fish tank design we have come across is a tank incorporated into a potted plant holder. In a yin-yang effect, one side of the pot contains soil and the other water and fish. This makes a great talking point and is also a way of creating a natural feel in an indoor area.
4. Office desk tank
This is one of the boldest fish tanks we’ve seen and one which would create a striking first impression at any reception desk. Here, a rectangular aquarium is combined with a glass desk top which is positioned above the tank itself, providing workspace as well as warm welcome to visitors.
5. Piped aquarium
Another unique design is a piped aquarium, whereby pipes connect several different tanks together, enabling fish to swim all over the room between them.
